About US

Finlands Svenska Idrott is an umbrella organisation for Swedish-speaking sports federations in Finland and the Åland Islands. Our primary task is to promote sport and fitness among the Swedish-speaking population in Finland. We want to promote sport, community and well-being through sporting activities, education, campaigns and events.

By offering resources, education and opportunities for cooperation, we are helping sports associations in their work to create meaningful leisure and hobby activities for children, young people and adults. Together, our federation and associations engage with some 90,000 people each year.

Our members actively participate in sports such as gymnastics, sport shooting, orienteering, skiing, track and field, cycling, swimming and power sports. Our members are also represented in, among others, football, sailing, martial arts and steeplechase.

Finlands Svenska Idrott organizes different types of activities and events for early childhood education and schools. Stafettkarnevalen is one of Finland’s most well-known and highly attended events in school sports.

We also work to promote gender equality, inclusion and diversity in sport, and are striving to create a safe and positive environment for all those involved.

In summary, Finlands Svenska Idrott is an organisation that plays an important role for the Swedish-speaking population in Finland. We aim to create an active and inclusive sports movement for all, by providing sports associations and active citizens with support, resources and opportunities.

In 2024, Thomas Blomqvist serves as chairman of the federation board and Henrika Backlund as secretary-general.
